The Beginner Series

Your Primary Goal: Survival, Not Perfection

Beginners often lose strokes because of:

  • Lost balls

  • Penalty areas

  • Trying to hit shots they’re not ready for

  • Choosing the wrong club

  • Aiming at targets that punish small mistakes

The Good Miss helps you avoid all of that by giving you a clear, safe corridor to play within.

IN THIS LESSON

Your #1 Goal: Stay in the Game

Most beginners lose strokes not because they hit the ball poorly, but because they hit it into places they can’t recover from — out of bounds, water, deep rough, trees. This lesson teaches you how to choose targets that keep you safe and give you the widest margin for error.

1. Start With the Question: “Where Can I NOT Go?”

Before every shot, identify the danger:

  • Out of bounds

  • Water

  • Thick rough

  • Trees

  • Fairway bunkers

Your target should always move away from the danger.

2. Aim at the Widest Part of the Hole

Forget the fairway stripe. Aim at the biggest, safest area — even if it’s rough.

A ball in the rough is playable. A ball in the trees is not.

3. Play for Your Miss

Beginners miss left and right. That’s normal. Choose a target that gives you room on both sides.

4. Use “Safety Corridors”

Imagine a 40–60 metre wide corridor where your ball is allowed to land. If your target sits inside that corridor, you’re safe.

5. A Good Miss Is Still a Win

If your ball stays in play, you’ve succeeded — even if it wasn’t pretty.
