IN THIS LESSON
Bogey Is the Target. Doubles Are the Enemy.
Breaking 100 isn’t about hitting great shots. It’s about eliminating the disasters that inflate your score.
1. Build a Simple Scoring Formula
To break 100, you need:
1 shot to get within 100 metres on par 3s
2 shots to get within 100 metres on par 4s
3 shots to get within 100 metres on par 5s
1 chip or putt onto the green
2 putts
That’s bogey golf. Bogey golf breaks 100.
2. Avoid Penalties at All Costs
Every penalty adds:
1 stroke
Lost distance
Lost confidence
Avoiding penalties alone can drop 6–10 shots per round.
3. Stop Trying to Hit Greens from Long Range
From 150+ metres:
Aim for the GMZ
Play for the next shot
Avoid bunkers and hazards
You don’t need greens in regulation to break 100.
4. Eliminate Recovery Shots
Punching out from trees kills your score. So does hacking out of deep rough.
If you avoid trouble off the tee, you avoid recovery shots.
5. Build a “Bogey‑First” Mindset
Ask on every hole: “What’s the easiest way to make bogey here?”
When you play for bogey:
Pars happen naturally
Doubles disappear
Scores drop quickly
This is the mindset shift that breaks 100.
