Structure Every Hole Into Predictable Stages

Mid handicappers often play “reactive golf” — making decisions based on emotion, not structure. This lesson teaches you how to build a repeatable, predictable strategy for every hole.

1. Stage 1: Tee Shot — Position, Not Power

Ask:

  • “Where is the widest landing area?”

  • “Which club keeps me in play?”

  • “What distance gives me a comfortable next shot?”

Choose the club that answers these questions — not the one that goes the furthest.

2. Stage 2: Approach — Play to the GMZ

Your goal is not to hit the green. Your goal is to leave a simple next shot.

Choose:

  • The wide side

  • The fat part of the green

  • The safest miss

3. Stage 3: Short Game — Choose the Lowest‑Risk Shot

Hierarchy:

  1. Putt

  2. Bump‑and‑run

  3. Low pitch

  4. High pitch

  5. Flop (rarely)

Choose the simplest shot that gets the ball on the green.

4. Stage 4: Putting — Two‑Putt Strategy

Your goal:

  • First putt inside 4 feet

  • Second putt in the hole

Speed > line.

5. Build a Pre‑Shot Decision Routine

Before every shot:

  • Identify danger

  • Choose the safe side

  • Pick the club that protects your miss

  • Commit fully

This routine builds consistency.
